There is economic turmoil in the region, but the development of Vietnam is no longer in doubt, enhanced by its large (82 million), young (average age under 25 years old), literate (over 93%), and educated (more than 7% of the men and 3% of the women are university graduates) population. The government is stable and the State is executed a bilateral trade agreement with the United States that will enable free trade and an enormous influx of hard currency to this beautiful land of hard working people.
Investors who are on board early will have the best opportunity to seize the choice parcels. There are no fire sales, for few projects are seriously burned. Proper planning and investment strategies are important. We at VVG devote a major effort towards that end.
The only question is when will investors come on board? The development of the infrastructure is well under way. Highways, telecommunications, construction materials, power generation, transportation and water supply & treatment have made remarkable strides. However, these are difficult to see, particularly to potential investors who do not visit regularly, or who have not been here at all.
$21 billion and 11 million people. A very visible sign of Vietnam's leap towards the 21st century is the horizontal construction sector (hotels, multiple-dwellings, and offices). On these pages, we feature the Ho Chi Minh City Region, with emphasis on Vung Tau and Saigon. The HCMC region (including Bien Hoa, Binh Duong, Vung Tau and Saigon) has a real (unofficial) population in excess of 11 million people, more than half the total foreign invested capital (US$ 25.15 billion or 55%), and 3,147 (63% of all) foreign invested projects (Jan05).
It is clear that Ho Chi Minh city remains far and away the economic and financial center of the nation.
There are similar developments in the central region around Dalat, and in the north, particularly in Hanoi. We intend to expand these pages over time to cover the nation.
