AUTHENTIC FISHING VILLAGE
A CULTURAL STOP
Physically accurate in appearance and design, this is an authentic, working village. Consisting of 200 cottages, constructed of pre-formed concrete floors and walls, and with tile roofs, each dwelling has thatched and wood planked exterior walls to provide an aura of authenticity, without denying creature comforts to our tenants. Residency is restricted to the families of Cua Lap Resort employees. The large income earners ply traditional farming and fishing trade practices, and are only a few of the hundreds of domestic staff that care for the projects and the site itself at the Cua Lap Resort. Their stay-at-home family members make and sell handicrafts and other items that are sold to tourists and other village residents from their house-front and side-walk stalls.
Gifts and Crafts. For a large selection of different Vietnamese crafts and gifts not available in the family shops or commercial retail cottages, the Village Craft & Gift Shop is the perfect opportunity. Quality is assured. We have the best crafts from the nation. After all, this is the Cua Lap Resort.
Vietnamese Cuisine. If the residents of the village don't invite you to lunch or dinner (do not be surprised if they do), and should you be hungry for authentic, Vietnamese sea food, you will enjoy a safe but exotic and delicious dining experience at The Village Net. This is our 200-seat Vietnamese sea-food delight. Our master chef and her family have run the best sea-food restaurant in Vung Tau for generations. Even if you do not like a high degree of spice in your meals, you will loose none of the flavor at this very special dining experience. You have learned to expect only the best. After all, this is the Cua Lap Resort.
The Tenants. Each of the cottages has electricity, fresh-running water, and full sanitation. Residents are exclusively the families of Cua Lap Resort domestic Vietnamese employees. Rents are at less than domestic rates to encourage employees to live near their work.
Former Residents. Each of the original families living on the site when the plan for the Cua Lap Resort was first approved by the People's Committee of BaRia VungTau Province (September 1998) will receive (i) full, reasonable compensation for the displacement of their homes, (ii) employment for each adult member of their family who is both able and desiring work, and (iii) in one cottage per original family, rent-free housing at the Fishing Village for as long as any adult member of the original family is employed at the Cua Lap Resort.
Thus continuity is assured, as most of the original families living on the site before we arrived will still be there. These people provide essential services to keep the lawns and gardens beautiful, and care for the fishing lake and crab/shrimp ponds. They and their families live at the Village. Many will be more than happy to invite you into their new homes.
Families run home-front stalls for their own profit. The funds they receive are completely theirs to retain (subject to all government taxes, of course). We encourage these shops to sell their authentic, quality products for their own profit, and as an enhancement to draw tourists. There are also some commercial retail shops throughout the Village offering a wide variety of goods.
The multiple benefits to the Cua Lap Resort Development Company from the operation of the Fishing Village include: (1) overcome land relocation problems before they begin; (2) enhance the cultural attraction of the Cua Lap Resort to area tourists without imposing on the peacefulness of the main Resort Grounds; and (3) derive income from: (i) tour operators bringing bus loads of visitors to the Fishing Village, (ii) craft and gift sales at the Village Craft Shop, (iii) F&B income from the Village Net Restaurant, and (iv) rent from thirty (30) commercial shops operating in the Fishing Village.
